Taiwan has been chosen as the 2029 Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) World Congress location. The ITS World Congress, the largest international expo uniting professionals from mobility, technology, and policy sectors to discuss and showcase advancements in smart transportation, is currently holding its 2024 event in Dubai from September 16 to 20.

In a press release, Taiwan Intelligent Transportation Society Chairman Shih Yi-fang (施義芳) noted that Taiwan has finally won the honor to host after throwing its hat in the ring four times in the past 10 years. He emphasized that Taiwan has been qualified and capable of hosting the ITS World Congress due to its scientific and technological strength, but could not because of China's interference.

Shih adds that looking at previous conferences, hosting will generate international business opportunities valued at NT$30 billion (US$941 million) or more, and can showcase Taiwan’s wisdom in smart transportation construction and industrial development. He points out that the expo will also improve domestic smart city upgrades, ICT, transportation, and tourism industries, in addition to boosting international visibility.

The 2029 ITS World Congress is expected to be held in Taipei City in September 2029 with more than 20,000 international participants, 200 forums, 1,000 world-renowned manufacturers and institutions, and more than 500 demonstrations and technical visits.
